Smartwings doubled the number of passengers in 2022 over the previous year to 5.2 million

Last year, Smartwings airlines carried more than 5.2 million passengers on scheduled and charter flights, a more than two-fold increase over the previous year when the number of passengers stood at 2.5 million. Last year, Smartwings operated flights from the Czech Republic as well as from its international hubs in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, France, and the Canary Islands. The company carried another 849,000 passengers on board its aircraft on behalf of other carriers.
The largest number of passengers, 3.1 million, used Smartwings services to/from the Czech Republic last year, up 100% year-on-year. The airline offered flights from 5 Czech airports (Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Pardubice, and Karlovy Vary) to 70 destinations. Of its foreign subsidiaries, Smartwings recorded the highest growth in Slovakia, where it carried 293,000 passengers, up 208% year-on-year. The number of Smartwings passengers in Poland reached 785 thousand (+ 65.2%) and 155 thousand in Hungary (+ 146%).
Smartwings operated 33,361 flights and its aircraft landed at 213 airports worldwide last year. The average occupancy rate was 86%. The busiest months were the summer months of July and August, when the company carried over 1 million passengers each month.
Besides scheduled and charter flights, Smartwings also provided a wide range of special flights for international corporations as well as for athletic and humanitarian organizations throughout the year. Last year, the company scored a first in the world of aviation. Smartwings was the first ever airline to land a Boeing 737 MAX in Antarctica. Last year, it made 4 flights beyond the Southern Arctic Circle.
Last year, Smartwings carried nearly 5.6 million passengers, reaching 92.4% of its 2019 pre-pandemic level.
Under the winter flight schedule, Smartwings operates scheduled flights from Prague to Dubai, Málaga, Mallorca, the Canary Islands, Egyptian resorts of Hurghada and Marsa Alam, to Madeira, and Tel Aviv. The company also provides charter flights to Cape Verde, the Canary Islands, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt. In winter, Smartwings also operates scheduled and charter flights from its international hubs: Bratislava (UAE, Oman, Cape Verde, Senegal, Zanzibar, Egypt), Warsaw and Katowice (Canary Islands, Cape Verde, Egypt, Madeira, Oman, Kenya, Turkey), Budapest (UAE, Canary Islands, Egypt, Zanzibar), Paris (Canary Islands, Madeira, Finland, Jersey), and Canary Islands (Porto, Cape Verde, Jersey). Smartwings Group operates a fleet of 43 airplanes.
