Smartwings and flydubai enter new wet lease agreement
October 14, 2022
Airline companies Smartwings and flydubai have concluded a new lease agreement for four Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft for the period from 17 November 2022 to 16 January 2023.
The Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance (ACMI) agreement with Smartwings will see four-leased aircraft support flydubai’s fleet of 68 Boeing 737 aircraft, enabling the carrier to add more capacity for its passengers and cater to demand for travel during the busy winter season.
Commenting on the agreement, Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, said: “We are pleased to confirm this new wet lease agreement with Smartwings, an IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) certified company, well-experienced in ACMI agreements. Having previously worked with Smartwings, we are confident that the leasing of four additional aircraft will provide our passengers with more convenient and reliable options for travel during the winter season.”
“We are very appreciative to have won the trust of flydubai once again and succeeded in tough competition from other airlines. This agreement stands as testimony to the successful business cooperation of our companies, which we value greatly,” says Roman Vik, Board member and CEO, Smartwings.
The aircraft in Smartwings colors will be based at Dubai International Airport and fly on selected routes in the flydubai network, including destinations in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Oman, and Sri Lanka (Chitagáon, Colombo, Dhaka, Karachi, Multan, Muscat, and Sialkot).
A total of 125 Smartwings flight staff members (pilots, cabin crew) as well as technicians and operating personnel will head to Dubai. This type of cooperation under the ACMI wet lease agreement is a way for Smartwings to achieve a higher and more efficient utilization of its aircraft in the winter season when demand for travel in Europe is weaker.
This upcoming winter, a total of 23 aircraft from the Smartwings fleet will find use in other countries (Canada, UAE, U.S., Israel).
