Smartwings adds the eleventh new Boeing 737 MAX to its fleet

Smartwings airline company has expanded its fleet with another new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. This is the eleventh aircraft of this type in the Smartwings fleet. Its existing fleet of 47 aircraft is expected to grow by another 5 by June.
The modern aircraft in Smartwings colours with the OK-SWK registration mark landed at Václav Havel Airport today. It travelled 8800 kilometers from Boeing Field (Seattle) to Prague in its delivery flight from the manufacturer. The newest addition to the Smartwings fleet will embark on its first commercial passenger flight on Friday, 24 January 2025, when it will be deployed on a regular service from Prague to Dubai.
The first Boeing 737 MAX joined Smartwings’ fleet at the end of January 2018. The company operates this aircraft type in two configurations: full economy with 189 seats and a two-class configuration with 18 business class seats and 150 economy class seats. Smartwings deploys the 737 MAX aircraft mainly on longer routes to the Canary Islands, Dubai, Oman, Cape Verde, and other remote destinations.
In January 2022, Smartwings became the first airline in the world to land this type of aircraft in Antarctica where it regularly takes members of the Norwegian Polar Institute. Smartwings has already made 15 landings at Troll Airfield in Antarctica.
This year, Smartwings Group expects another strong summer season and a further increase in the number of passengers. Under the 2025 summer schedule, it will offer direct flights from six Czech airports to approximately 80 destinations. Smartwings Group will operate flights not only from the Czech Republic, but also from Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary during the summer season.
In total, 8.3 million passengers used the services of the Smartwings airline group last year. Smartwings carried 6.5 million passengers on scheduled and charter flights, up 20.1% year-on-year. The number of Smartwings’ passengers exceeded the pre-pandemic level of 2019 by 16.3%. The company carried another 1.85 million passengers on board its aircraft on behalf of other carriers. The total number of flights in 2024 increased to 53,338 (+11%). Smartwings aircraft landed at 318 airports around the world last year.
